April Promotion at sanctum

Chocolate.....
We all know how tempting, delicious and aromatic this amazing treat can be, but did you know how wonderful it can be for your skin?
The love of Chocolate has a long history.  With it's beginnings in South America with the Mayan Indians, the Inca's of Peru and the Aztecs of Mexico - trade of this valuable bean flourished so much so, that it became a unit of currency.  A pumpkin cost about four cocoa nibs while a 'tolerably good' slave cost up to one hundred!!

Good quality Chocolate is rich in antioxdants (comparable to that of Green Tea) that helps our skin renew and repair cellular damage.
It helps to soften skin due to the rich effects of Cocoa Butter and Chocolate can aid in smoothing and exfoliating the skin as well as softening the signs of ageing. But most importantly, it smells so good!!
This effects the ‘feel good’ centres of the brain leaving you feeling as good on the inside as your do on the outside.
All of this without having to hit the Gym!
To take advantage of Easter and to celebrate all that is Chocolate, we are offering this devilishly, delicious package:

sanctum Nourishing Chocolate Wrap

Full Body Chocolate Wrap - our wrap has been made in house using the finest quality Chocolate, luscious oils of Macadamia, Sweet Almond and Vitamin E and clarifying Clays of Rhassoul and Kaolin

Product Focus - Mukti Rosehip Eye Gel

The eyes are the windows to the soul - or so they say.
The eyes are also one of the most delicate areas on the face and so can show signs of ageing and skin issues earlier than other areas.
In our 'time poor' lives, we can often forget that we need to take a little extra care of the area around our eyes and that with just a few extra steps, we can care for this area and reduce our risk of premature damage.
The area around our eyes differs from the rest of the face in a few ways:
  • it has virtually no sebaceaous (sweat) glands, making it prone to dryness
  • it is much thinner and more delicate than the other areas of the face
  • it has minimal fat padding and sits over a dense capillary network, which can lead to puffiness
  • it is constantly 'stressed' by eye movements and facial expressions
Our skin care routine should take into account these points in order to protect and preserve this delicate skin.
As well as a gentle cleanser for the face (some product ranges produce a specific cleanser for the eye area), a purpose made care cream for the eye area is vital.
Mukti Rosehip Eye Gel is formulated for all skin types and is a light, soothing gel infused with Rosehip and vitamins such as Vitamin E.
Rosehip is a potent natural antioxidant that helps to combat cellular damage and repair tissue. Mukti Rosehip Eye Gel assists tired, puffy eyes and helps to firm and tone the eye area.
Other ingredients include: Calendula, Chamomile, Organic Shea Butter and Grapefruit Seed Extract, all added to gently hydrate and nourish.
Best used after cleansing and toning and before your moisturiser.
Dab a small amount onto the pads of your fingers (the ring fingers are the best for this) and gently pat around the eye area - be sure to incorporate the sides of the face from the outer corner of your eye to your hairline (where 'crows feet' appear) as well as underneath the eye following the top of the cheek bone.
Mukti Rosehip Eye Gel absorbs quickly resulting in soft, subtle, healthy looking skin.
See in store at sanctum for more details or book in on of our Aromatic Facials today and feel the difference a little skin care can make.

Product Focus - Brownie Point

Anyone who has visited us for a treatment already knows about one of Launceston's best kept secrets....
Brownie Point is a locally owned and run business that makes some of the best gourmet brownies we've ever tasted!!
When we were designing sanctum we knew we wanted to offer a few things different and this popped onto our radar. It fit so well into our plan to have our Clients take some time out in our Relaxation Lounge after their treatments and enjoy a tea and something small and tasty to help prepare them for returning to the 'real world'.
This is the 'soul' part of 'body skin soul'!
The majority of Brownie Points goodies are gluten free without losing any of their amazing texture and flavour - we think our Clients would agree!
The lovely Edna, Lorraine and team are baking these goodies daily and locals are welcome to drop in to buy directly from the source.
With such treats as: Choc Fudge Walnut, Cherry Coconut, Rocky Road and Cappucino Brownies; plus White Chocolate and Raspberry Blondies, it's no wonder that they are becoming more sought after at local outlets and farmer markets.
sanctum has a select range of brownies for purchase as well, even though it makes some days tougher than others when you're feeling peckish at Reception!

'back' in business...

We've all got one.....often we don't give them much thought until, perhaps, something goes wrong and then they become our one and only focus....
Our backs are a vital part of our body, without which we would be unable to perform just about any function that we take for granted.
As well as the structural support and shape they provide, our back's main role is that of protecting our spinal cord.  You may have heard the term 'Central Nervous System' - this relates to our brain and our spinal cord.  The brain runs the show, but without the spinal cord, no messages would make it from the brain to the body nor vital information from the body back to the brain.
This is a vast communications system with a constant stream of information flowing in order to keep our body working properly.
We can survive weeks without food, days with our water, a few minutes without air, but only seconds without this energy and information feeding through our nerves.
Problems can occur throughout our entire body should there be issues with our back structurally - either through muscular tension or subluxation (internal misalignments).
Below are some of the more commonly known areas of our spine and the corresponding problems they can cause in our body.

Cervical Vertebre - problems in this area can cause: headaches, insomnia, ear infections, hormonal problems, depression, sinus trouble, fainting spells, acne, hearing difficulties, tinnitus, upper arm pain, arm weakness, thyroid conditions and dry skin

Thoracic Vertebre - problems in this area can cause: asthma, breathing problems, blood pressure issues, chest pains, gall bladder condtions, indigestion, digestive disorders, blood disorders, allergies, kidney trouble, fatigue, menstrual problems, anxiety, immune impairment and ulcers

Lumbar Vertebre -  problems in this area can cause: constipation, diarrhea, hernias, appendicitis, upper leg conditions, bladder trouble, menstrual difficulties, impotence, knee pain, prostate problems, sciatica, leg weakness, swollen or weak ankles, tingling in the feet and back pain

Sacral Vertebre -  problems in this area can cause: pelvic problems, leg length differences, spinal curvatures, sciatic, knee pain and ankle
weakness

Coccyx - problems in this area can cause: infertility, mental symptoms, hemorrhoids, pain when sitting and migraines

So, as you can see, our back and spine play a much larger role than first thought.
The good news is that there are practitioners out there who can help identify and treat these issues.
At sanctum, we focus on soft tissue condtions and supporting other practitioners.  Massage works muscle and connnective tissue allowing the body to realign, re-lengthen or resist falling back into poor postural patterns.
Other modalities can include: Chiropractic, Osteopathic, Physiotherapy, Acupuncture, Pilates, Yoga and Bowen Therapy.
sanctum is happy to recommend the following practitioners to our Clients: Chiropractic - Dr Madeleine Findlay, Centreway Arcade, Launceston CBD p: (03) 6331 9656; and Physiotherapy - Tony Hennessy, Mowbray Physiotherapy, Invermay Road, Mowbray (03) 6326 6999.
We are always happy to hear of other practitioners who have been helpful to our Clients.
While we can suggest treatment options, ultimately, it's up to each person to find the modality and the practitioners that suits them.
